Những tàn tích dưới đáy biển này không chỉ có ở Nhật Bản, mà là ở khắp các đại dương trên toàn thế giới. Vậy thực sự trên Trái Đất đã từng tồn tại một nền văn minh rất lớn và đã bị diệt vong bởi một trận đại hồng thuỷ như trong các câu chuyện cổ xưa? Câu trả lời xin dành cho cho độc giả tự phán xét.

Toàn cảnh kiến trúc kim tự tháp Yonaguni
Vào năm 1985, Kihachiro Aratake, một thợ lặn người Nhật trong khi đang làm việc dưới vùng biển gần một hòn đảo nhỏ phía Nam Nhật Bản, tên là đảo Yonaguni Jima (gần Đài Loan) đã tình cờ phát hiện một kiến trúc đá cổ đồ sộ. Điều đặc biệt là nó có dạng bậc thang của các kim tự tháp với những góc cạnh tinh tế. Khu đá dài đến 100m và có những đường hầm sâu hơn 2m.

Giáo sư tiến sỹ Masaaki Kimura (sinh ngày 6/11/1940, tại Yokohama, Nhật Bản) là giáo sư danh dự của khoa Khoa học Trường Đại học Ryūkyūs, Okinawa, Nhật Bản. Ông tốt nghiệp tại Khoa Thủy sản của Trường Đại học Tokyo vào năm 1963, rồi đạt học vị tiến sĩ về địa chất biển vào năm 1968. Ông đã từng làm việc cho Viện nghiên cứu Hải dương học thuộc trường Đại học Tokyo, Viện khảo sát địa chất Nhật Bản, Cơ quan Khoa học và Công nghệ thuộc Bộ Thương mại và Công nghiệp Quốc tế Nhật Bản, và Đài quan sát thiên văn Trái Đất Lamont-Doherty thuộc trường Đại học Columbia. Ông giảng dạy tại trường Đại học Ryukus từ năm 1977 tới năm 2002. Ông hiện giờ là tổng giám đốc của Hội nghiên cứu Di sản Văn hóa và Khoa học Đại dương.
Năm 1996, ông đã tiến hành khảo sát khu vực này. Sau nhiều năm nghiên cứu sự hình thành của khu tàn tích này, ông đã đi tới kết luận đáng kinh ngạc rằng: đây là dấu tích của một nền văn minh cao cấp cổ xưa, là một thành phố cổ bị động đất đánh chìm khoảng 12.000 năm trước.
Giáo sư Kimura cũng cho biết, ban đầu ông nghĩ rằng các cấu trúc này là tự nhiên. Nhưng ông đã thay đổi quan điểm sau lần đầu tiên lặn xuống quan sát. Ông đã tìm thấy những dấu vết mài xẻ trên đá, các ký tự trên những phiến đá và các mẩu đá được mài đẽo hình các loài động vật.
Ngoài những phát hiện ở phía Nam đảo Yonaguni, các khám phá quan trọng đã được thực hiện ở phía Tây của hòn đảo này. Không có bằng chứng nào cho thấy những cư dân của nền văn hóa Nhật Bản cổ đại có thể xây dựng được chúng. Nói cách khác, những ai đó thuộc về những thời kỳ tiền sử xa xôi đã xây dựng nó, trước khi một biến cố địa chất nào đó đã làm cho cả một mảng khối lục địa to lớn chìm xuống, kéo theo cả công trình dang dở vĩ đại này. Các giám định niên đại cho thấy cấu trúc này có thể ra đời vào khoảng 8.000 đến 10.000 năm trước công nguyên. Đến nay, sau 25 năm khám phá ra công trình này, chúng ta vẫn chưa nghiên cứu ra được nền văn minh nào là những người đã xây dựng nó.

Xưa kia khu vực di tích Yonaguni nằm trên mực nước biển, khi băng hà chưa tan chảy làm nước biển dâng lên. Thời kỳ Băng tan và và mực nước biển bắt đầu dâng lên vào khoảng 10.000 -12.000 năm trước. Hiện nay Yonaguni nằm dưới mực nước biển, vì vậy các nhà khoa học cho rằng kim tự tháp Yonaguni có ít nhất 10.000 năm tuổi.

Những bậc cầu thang cao tới 1m
Hơn nữa, có những dấu tích còn lại của những con phố xung quanh kim tự tháp. Các thợ lặn thuộc khoa địa chất học thuộc trường Đại học Boston Hoa Kỳ nhận thấy rằng các cầu thang khổng lồ đã được xây dựng từ một loạt các lớp đá cao 1m, giống như bậc thang kim tự tháp. Các nhà khảo cổ học tại Trường Đại học London tin rằng những người xây dựng nên công trình này có trình độ còn vượt trên các nền văn minh Lưỡng Hà và sông Ấn.

Nếu công trình này là nhân tạo, thì ai đã tạo ra nó? Chúng ta không hề có một tư liệu lịch sử nào đề cập đến một nền văn minh giữa biển Thái Bình Dương cả. Có nghĩa là: nó rất cổ xưa, vượt xa giới hạn hiểu biết của lịch sử chúng ta.

Bức ảnh của Mohammad Sajjad, làm việc cho hãng thông tấn AP, đã khiến cả thế giới bàng hoàng. Cậu bé bú bình sữa không đó là Reza Khan, 2 tuổi, đang sống ở một trại tạm tại tỉnh Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, tỉnh giáp giới với Afghanistan, và đã bị tàn phá nặng nề bởi đợt lũ lụt vừa qua.
Khu trại là một nhúm khoảng 2 chục chiếc lều được nhiều tổ chức cứu trợ khác nhau quyên tặng và không có ai quản lý. Những người sống ở đây phải tự bảo vệ lấy chính họ, sống nhờ vào đồ cứu trợ phập phù. Tổng cộng có 19 gia đình tại khu trại, tất cả đều là người tị nạn Afghanistan, những người trước kia đã bị mất nhà cửa ở quê nhà họ vì chiến tranh, nay lại bị mất nhà một lần nữa bởi trận lũ lụt kinh hoàng nhất lịch sử Pakistan, kéo dài suốt cả tháng trời.
Gia đình bé Reza đến từ Butkhak, gần thủ đô Kabul, Afghanistan. Cha cậu bé trốn tới Pakistan từ khi còn bé, khoảng 30 năm trước.
Khi các phóng viên tìm đến, Reza đang ở trong lều với mẹ, Fatima, cùng với 6 trong số 7 anh chị em nhỏ khác của cậu bé. Tất cả đều túm tụm trên một chiếc chăn màu xanh trải trên nền đất nhầy nhụa. Cậu bé vẫn ôm chặt bình sữa đó. Chiếc bình vẫn rỗng không.
Fatima cố gắng dỗ dành Reza, do bé khóc i ỉ suốt ngày cùng với cậu em song sinh Mahmoud. Người phụ nữ phủ cho 3 đứa con khác trong số 8 đứa con của mình, tất cả đều không quá 9 tuổi, bằng một tấm màn bẩn ai đó đi ngang qua đưa cho họ. Nhưng chiếc màn chắn muỗi có rất nhiều lỗ thủng. Đứa con lớn nhất, bé gái 9 tuổi Sayma, bị câm, và dường như không để ý gì tới xung quanh.

“Hôm nay chúng không có gì ăn. Tôi không có thực phẩm gì”, Fatima nói khi cố gắng xua lũ ruồi ra khỏi người các con bằng một chiếc quạt nan. “Nó đang khóc vì đói”, người phụ nữ chỉ vào Reza. “Một tháng nay nó không được uống sữa”.
“Chúng tôi đã ở đây một tháng, rồi một tháng! Chúng tôi đã quá mệt mỏi vì lũ ruồi, vì không có thức ăn. Trước đây chúng tôi nghèo, nhưng chúng tôi vẫn được no bụng”.
Gia đình 10 nhân khẩu này đã từng sống ở trong khu trại tị nạn Azakhel dành cho người Afghanistan. Chồng Fatima, anh Aslam, đã bán gà để kiếm sống. Mỗi ngày đạp xe từ nhà này đến nhà khác trên chiếc xe hoen rỉ, tài sản quý giá của gia đình, anh kiếm được khoảng 2 đô la.
Ngôi nhà xây bằng gạch, đất của họ nhỏ, nhưng đủ chỗ cho họ, Fatima cho hay. Họ sống cùng những người họ hàng của chồng, khoảng 6 gia đình. “Tôi có bếp, và có vòi nước ở gần đó”.
Nhưng căn nhà của họ không chống chịu được được dòng nước lũ tràn vào từ sông Kabul gần đó. Cả đại gia đình gồm 60 người đã phải rời đi, đi bộ lên tuyến đường chính nối thành phố Nowshera với Peshawar. Họ phải sống 5 ngày ở trên một cánh đồng, ăn bất kỳ thứ gì đào bới được.
Những người đàn ông trong gia đình phải chạy đi khắp nơi để có được lều. Đàn ông, phụ nữ, trẻ em chạy xô tới bất kỳ chiếc xe nào xuất hiện. Hàng trăm cánh tay chìa ra, với hi vọng có được thực phẩm, nước uống hoặc quần áo.
“Chúng tôi phải chạy theo thực phẩm, bởi không có tổ chức nào đến các lều trại để phân phát thực phẩm cả”, Fatima cho biết. Các con cô được ăn một lần một ngày, thường vào buổi tối, nhờ các tổ chức từ thiện cung cấp các bữa phá chay trong lễ Ramadan. Nhưng tháng ăn chay Ramadan sẽ kết thúc vào tuần này. “Tôi chỉ muốn nói với thế giới rằng, không có cách nào để chúng tôi có thể có thực phẩm sao? Xin hãy giúp, các con tôi đang chết đói”.

Sáng sớm ngày 4/9 một căn phòng tập thể tầng 1 của tòa nhà 3 tầng thuộc thôn Tam Đa Tề thị trấn Chi Lĩnh huyện Ngũ Hoa tỉnh Quảng Đông, Trung Quốc bị sụt nền, hai vợ chồng gia đang nằm ngủ cùng chiếc giường đã biến mất sau đó với hiện trường là một hố sụt lớn dưới nền nhà.
Hiện vẫn chưa tìm thấy hai vợ chồng chủ hộ, công tác cứu hộ vẫn đang được tiếp tục.

Tòa nhà nơi xảy ra sự cố.

Hiện trường xảy ra vụ sụt đất nằm trong khu tập thể 2 dãy nhà song song của hơn 10 hộ dân. Căn phòng nơi xảy ra sự cố xuất hiện hố lớn ngay dưới chân giường chủ nhà với đường kính 2 mét và sâu chừng 5 mét.
Chăn, màn bị đất vùi lấp nhưng vẫn còn một phần lộ ra ngoài, điều đó cho thấy sự cố xảy ra đúng lúc hai ông bà đang ngủ. Chiếc hố này còn khoét sâu và lan rộng sang cả nhà bên cạnh.
Hai vợ chồng già mất tích được xác định là ông Chung Vinh Phát 78 tuổi, bà Vu Phong Chiêu 72 tuổi. Con cái họ đều đi làm ăn xa nên bình thường chỉ có hai ông bà ở tầng 1 của tòa nhà 3 tầng. Chung Chấn Quang, người cháu gọi ông Phát bằng chú ở gian phòng cách phòng ông bà 1 phòng và là người đầu tiên phát hiện sự cố.
Theo lời kể của Quang, 8 giờ 15 phút sáng 4/9 anh đi chơi về, gọi ông bà Phát mở cửa nhưng không ai trả lời. Bước vào nhà, anh giật mình khi thấy chiếc tủ quần áo dựng sát tường đã biến mất, kỳ lạ hơn ngay dưới chân tường xuất hiện một hố lớn.

9 giờ sáng ngày 4/9 khi lực lượng cứu hộ đang làm việc tại hiện trường, chiếc hố trong phòng ông bà Phát lại tiếp tục lún sụt và suýt nữa “nuốt chửng” một nhân viên cứu hộ khi anh này xuống dưới hố xem xét, tìm kiếm.
Công việc cứu hộ vẫn đang được tiếp tục nhưng gặp khá nhiều khó khăn do nền nhà hầu như toàn cát, chỉ cần đào một xẻng là cát từ 4 xung quanh lại chảy xuống lấp kín. Hiện tại lực lượng cứu hộ phải sử dụng ván gỗ chèn 4 xung quanh và tiếp tục tìm kiếm, tuy nhiên do không gian hẹp, lại làm dưới chân móng nhà nên hết sức khó khăn.

Razor2: Hidden Skies makes no apologies for its adherence to classic shoot-'em-up formulas. Drop an upgradable ship into a top-down sci-fi shooter, throw a zillion enemies and bullets onto the screen, and challenge the player to balance the equally fine arts of firing and dodging. There's a reason why this is one of the oldest genres in gaming ? there is a legit thrill to narrowly surviving a curtain of incoming bullets while returning fire and taking down a screen-sized boss. But because there are so many shooters like Razor2, to stand out from the pack requires a special something extra ? and that's something Razor2 just doesn't have.

Technically, Razor2 hits the right notes. Stage after stage hurls thousands of enemy ships at your nose cone, beefing up the difficulty with each advancing level. You can also set the difficulty at the beginning of Razor2, and there is a noticeable difference between the three tiers of toughness. Try the normal setting to get a good challenge without wanting to drive your finger through the space bar in utter frustration. The more ships you destroy, the more coin you pocket to use in the between-stage shop.
The shop is where I had the most fun in Razor2. Not only are you able to buy upgrades for your ship, such as improving the power of the three main cannons ? bullet, V-shaped lasers, and homing laser ? but also add a number of secondary weapons, latch on extra shield and energy units, and boost the speed. There is a degree of strategy here, too. If you are an offensive player, plowing your cash into juicing the primary weapons ? especially the bullet cannon ? is a good investment. But I found myself far more reliant on secondary weapon systems like a homing energy blast that was perfect for cooking flanking enemies during boss battles while I concentrated my primary weapon on weak spots.

But in a shooter, I shouldn't derive the majority of my enjoyment in the shop screen. I should get my kicks when unloading on alien cruisers. Yet the magic never quite kicked in. Enemy patterns are predictable. Bosses, though large, are unimaginative. And everything is so straightforward. There are no little tweaks like Ikaruga's light-dark system. You don't have to completely ape old-school designs to keep it old-school. There is plenty of opportunity to pay homage to the classics like Raiden while putting your own clever spin on the shooter.

Razor2 includes a host of medals and in-game achievement as well as online leaderboards for boasting about your alien-killing prowess. These may keep some shooter fans coming back for more and getting a decent amount of value out of their $10 investment. But all players are sure to enjoy the soundtrack, which is an impressive tapestry of orchestral music. Although I may fancy beep-boop game music, even I started wondering how I might rip the soundtrack out of Razor2 for enjoyment outside of the shooter.

In Evil Islands, you play the role of a confused little man named known as Zak that has woken up in the middle of some ruins without any idea where or who he is. It immediately becomes his task to find out who he is and where he comes from. The information that you need is not going to be free however, you're going to have to do some people some favors to get them to talk. The characters in this game are not all nice however noble they may think they are or pretend to be. You'll soon find yourself immersed in some intriguing and questionable actions as you try to find out your origins. Clues will lead to new quests that will give you more clues that will lead you to find someone that will ask a favor then give you another lead and so on. One thing can certainly be said for this game...it's long. And it has a multiplayer feature within the same lands that could add a buttload more time to your gaming time.

The adventure takes place across three islands that have been ripped apart in a bit of a magical cataclysm. There are societies of people on each of them as well varied environments. The game comes forth in glorious full 3D, and looks really good. This is a really pretty game. Textures are fantastic on both the environment and models alike. However there were some clipping problems on some of the models mainly due to the way they were pieced together, but I can say that only one of these instances was really bothersome to my eye. Otherwise it was a treat to wander the world and check out the view.

The control scheme is elegant and effective. The camera is used by holding down the right mouse button and rotating and tilting with mouse movements. What has been clumsy in a lot of RTS games works totally fine in an RPG apparently. I never once had a problem moving the camera to a spot where I could get a good view of the environment. There were some points when I couldn't get in close for that neat up close and personal view of a fight, but that really didn't detract from the playability or overall enjoyment of the game. And the nifty mid-combat pause function let you move the camera around if an object did block your view a little, which did happen every now and again with the lush forests in the game. Spell effects were also done well and the particle system looked fantastic, although I do wish that there had been more of them, but I'll get more into that in a minute. I also thought that some of them could have been a little more grandiose, but I guess that's artistic choice.

The sound work in the game had some really high production values with some very good sound effects and beautiful music, but the voice work on some of the characters, while charming at times, could really be annoying and sometimes downright laughable. The feel of this game does tend to run towards the goofy old days of the big-headed anime style Chrono Trigger/Final Fantasy VII type of games. But I actually dig those kind of games and I didn't have a problem with a lot of the goofiness. In fact, I thought so of the over-the-top performances were really great at times, but when the goofiness gets into the "bad acting" realm, it's doesn't hold so well. My other main complaint with the sound would have to be the small number of sound bytes for characters when running and fighting and all of that. The frequency which they replay the same bytes tends on the nerve wracking until you learn to tune it out or just turn the voices off in the options completely.

Once you get past the aesthetic and auditory parts of the game, you'll find a pretty rewarding experience underneath as well. There are a lot of ways which you can go about playing this game, from the incredibly challenging and almost impossible sneaky style, to the "hit someone in the face until they fall over blood-letting" type of gameplay. Each of these styles was utilized well throughout the game and I tried each a bit and found that both were rewarding, but they were also incredibly difficult and even annoying at times if you don't have a huge amount of patience. This basically boils down to the difficulty level and number of monsters...which can be downright daunting at times.

Sneaking around is a really fun part of the game. If you try hard enough, you can sneak around most anywhere without being detected by crouching and moving or even crawling on your belly. You can steal money and items from creatures instead of killing them for it and even backstab those that won't be nice and move out of your way for you. But this is a really time consuming process as patrol paths for creatures make the sneaking near impossible at some points in the game. Even though that was once of the most entertaining parts of the game for me, I just didn't have the patience for it and ended up attacking things more often then not.

The problem there is that most of the creatures are at least equal strength with you. But in Russian terms, "equal" apparently means stronger. On normal difficulty it can take a really long time to kill an evenly matched opponent, even if its three against one. And if you bring another evenly matched creature into the mix, it gets close to impossible. They'll hit you for critical hits so many times your head will be rolling along before you can say "uncle." Rather than finding this challenging at early stages of the game where you can't afford good weapons, armor, or spells, it is annoyingly frustrating.

For the most part, fighting is done much like the Baldur's Gate series with real time combat made manageable by a pause feature. There are some great ideas in the battlefield that should have made fights less frustrating, but it just didn't work that way. One of those features in the fights is the ability to target different parts of creatures' bodies. If you are worried about getting hit too often, you can take out their arms to make them attack at a much slower rate. And this does work... when you manage to hit them. When trying to do this on normal difficulty with a three-on-one against a comparable opponent, I would miss a good 80 percent of the time when trying to hit. Meanwhile, my enemy would be landing critical hits, presumably at my head judging by the point value on the hits which is the most difficult part of the body to hit, every third hit or so. I was forced to turn the game to novice to be able to fight. I hate having to do that. But I also had a lot more fun when I did. I still went sneaking around as often as I could, but at least I had a chance if I accidentally ran into a couple of equal foes. Even on novice, there's a chance of losing the fight, although nowhere near as great. If the normal had been expert and there had been another level of difficulty added between that and novice, I would have like that much more.

My last big bit of contention was the rate at which stamina ran out when running through the world. I understand the need to keep you from just running from the enemy all of the time, but when they seem to have a limitless amount of stamina, that's not fair. That and it takes too long to run across a level when you have to stop and let it recharge after a short sprint. Maybe if they had had a rate of reduction when running for when enemies are near and when you are just running though open territory...

One of the nice parts about the game that I had some fun with was the ability to build your own armor and weapons using "blueprints," materials, and spells. The first thing you need are the blueprints, which are really just basic models without materials. You then add different types of materials like stone, leather, bone, or metal. There are various grades of each of the materials and if you've picked a lesser grade and want to come back, you can deconstruct your item for a price and rebuild it with a better material.

Spells can be constructed the same way with blueprints and runes. I really wish there had been more basic spells in the game. There were a good number, but none of them were really that creative. You can add runes to these that will give effects like added strength or more range or the ability to attach them to items for more derivatives of each. If a spell is given the ability to attach to an item, you can add them to armor or weapons so the spell activates when that item is used or struck. It's really nice seeing your guy heal automatically when hit in the head. The interface and menu system in the game is really easy to pick up and works like a charm for all of its purposes, but is especially nice for the building of weapons and spells.

Once you have these weapons, you can equip your team for battle to specific situations, which is a really cool way to deal with tactics and strategy. You can actually go through the game without any teammates, but given the difficulty level, that might be near impossible. You'll have plenty of opportunity to pick up people to journey with and have control over their development as well by assigning experience points just like you do for yourself.

So the moral of the story is that if you are looking for an RPG that mixes a good bit of gameplay variety with a lot of gaming hours, this could be your choice. Evil Islands has great visuals and some goofy character that is really endearing. Even with its problems, I had a lot of fun with the game and am sad that I've got other stuff I have to do now because I'd love to go and see it through to the bitter end and then jump onto have some longer multiplayer adventures, but alas E3 is less than a month away and Tal's whipping me as I type to get my ass in gear.

It is the year 2020. After capturing a Russian GRU Colonel named Pavel Doletskaya in Moscow, Team Victor of the Joint Strike Force (JSF) retreats from Russia, with Sergeant Nathan Vatz as the sole survivor. Colonel Doletskaya is interrogated by Major Alice Dennison back in the U.S. The colonel refuses to answer any questions, even under torture. The interrogation is then turned over to Charles Shakura, the JSF's top interrogator. Yet the Colonel still holds out and he is then sent to Cuba. Meanwhile, Outlaw Team, composed of Marine Force Recon, is dispatched to rescue the Colonel when his plane is shot down in the Cuban jungle. The team finds only one survivor, Shakura. Outlaw Team's leader, Sergeant McAllen, is told that this was only a decoy, and that Colonel Doletskaya was ferried to Cuba on a submarine.

Prior to this time, all U.S. Special Operations Forces are merged into one combined task force termed the "Joint Strike Force" (JSF). In 2016, there is a nuclear war between Saudi Arabia and Iran, annihilating both countries. This war leads Russia into being the world's leading oil producer. In 2016, Europe becomes one country called the European Federation (EF). The United Nations is then disbanded. The US and EF are no longer allies. After launching the Freedom Star space station from the JFK Space Center in 2020, the space station is attacked by the Green Brigade, a powerful and infamous left-wing ecoterrorist group. All Marines aboard are killed and the Russians are blamed for this. The purpose of the space station is to allow the United States to be able to deploy 3 brigades of U.S. Marines anywhere in the world within 90 minutes.

Meanwhile, Major Stephanie 'Siren' Halverson and her wingman, Captain Jake 'Ghost Hawk' Boyd, observe multiple Russian Ka-29 helos flying over Canadian land. While trying to scare the Russian helicopters back to the border, Captain Boyd's F35 is shot down by rocket fire. Major Halverson then shoots down two-and-a-half dozen more Russian helicopters and tries to land the bird to rescue Jake. He refuses to be rescued because Major Halverson would then run the risk of being captured or killed by the Spetsnaz forces. After giving her sidearm to Boyd, she returns and takes off in her F35. Soon after, Spetsnaz troops arrive via a Ka-29, and Boyd is killed. Halverson receives a call from the President, and the U.S. fully realizes that Russia is invading Canada. At that time, Canada is the world's second leading oil producer. After refueling and rearming at Igloo Base, which is destroyed seconds after both pilots take off, Major Halverson with her new wingman Captain Lisa 'Sapphire' Johansson and two other F35s attack and destroy a large staging ground with AN-130 super carrier jets. During that engagement, a flight of Russian SU-98 fighter jets shoot down all of the F35s, with Major Halverson being the only survivor. Back in the U.S., Major Dennison figures out the answers to the questions. Operation 2659 is the invasion of Canada, and Snegurockha is Colonel Viktoria Antsyforov. Colonel Doletskaya falls in love with her until she dies.

During that time, Outlaw Team is sent to Canada to find Major Halverson and rescue her, their orders from the President himself. Sergeant Vatz's Team also arrives in Canada to combat Spetsnaz troops in the town of High Level, Alberta. Half of Vatz's team dies when the C-130 is shot down. Khaki, an ex-Canadian Special Forces soldier, is a helicopter pilot responsible for transporting Outlaw team to Major Halverson, lands in the town held by Sgt Vatz in order to refuel. At that point, the Russians stage an assault on the airfield, successfully destroying Khaki's helicopter. Outlaw Team begins to form a plan to take a Russian KA-29 helo, and in doing so, are able to enlist the help of one Captain Pravota. Outlaw team then tells Pravota to fly to the location where they will find Halverson. He agrees but warns that the helo has mechanical problems. Pravota tells them that he wants to go with the US soldiers on the return trip to the United States, and McAllen quickly agrees. After thinking they are Spetsnaz troops, Major Halverson begins to open fire at the helicopter, almost injuring the Outlaw Team. After realizing that is the Outlaw Team, she is rescued. Sergeant Vatz's Team, the Bravo Team, goes into combat with a handful of Spetsnaz, and some of his troops are killed.

Back in Moscow, the president of the Russian Federation, is called. It is Snegurockha and Green Vox. Green Vox is the leader of infamous terrorist group, the Green Brigade Transnational. They tell the president that they have put two nuclear bombs in Calgary and Edmonton and will detonate them in 48 hours. The only catch is that they will wait for most of the citizen to evacuate, and more of the Spetsnaz to move in. The president demands help from the US to defuse it after all attempts on negotiations with the two terrorists fail. The terrorists put the nuclear bombs in the two cities in order to effectifevly turn the world guns on Russia, and bring any neutral countries into war, because the two cities also have large oil refineries. The President charges Sergeant Marc Rakken to send two Nuclear Emergency Support Team (NEST) teams to defuse it. Marc Rakken leads them to the nuclear bombs and defuses it before it detonates. However, Marc Rakken sacrifices himself to save the entire NEST team when a lone Spetsnaz troop throws a grenade at them. In the end, Snegurockha kills Green Vox because they fail to detonate the nuclear bombs. Spetsnaz troops begin to evacuate from Canada. The Outlaw Team leader gets his legs shot up, but Major Halverson survives. Nathan Vatz is relieved that the war is over, but also finds out that Rakken died to save the entire NEST Team. Major Alice Dennison approached Colonel Doletskaya and tells him that Colonel Viktoria Antsyforov is still alive and currently hiding out in Canada. Colonel Pavel Doletskaya tells her that he will help Dennison to capture Viktoria, and she frees him. Major Dennison later calls President Becerra and tells him that she hasn't told all of the information to Doletskaya, but he's in on their plan.

Razor2: Hidden Skies makes no apologies for its adherence to classic shoot-'em-up formulas. Drop an upgradable ship into a top-down sci-fi shooter, throw a zillion enemies and bullets onto the screen, and challenge the player to balance the equally fine arts of firing and dodging. There's a reason why this is one of the oldest genres in gaming ? there is a legit thrill to narrowly surviving a curtain of incoming bullets while returning fire and taking down a screen-sized boss. But because there are so many shooters like Razor2, to stand out from the pack requires a special something extra ? and that's something Razor2 just doesn't have.

Technically, Razor2 hits the right notes. Stage after stage hurls thousands of enemy ships at your nose cone, beefing up the difficulty with each advancing level. You can also set the difficulty at the beginning of Razor2, and there is a noticeable difference between the three tiers of toughness. Try the normal setting to get a good challenge without wanting to drive your finger through the space bar in utter frustration. The more ships you destroy, the more coin you pocket to use in the between-stage shop.
The shop is where I had the most fun in Razor2. Not only are you able to buy upgrades for your ship, such as improving the power of the three main cannons ? bullet, V-shaped lasers, and homing laser ? but also add a number of secondary weapons, latch on extra shield and energy units, and boost the speed. There is a degree of strategy here, too. If you are an offensive player, plowing your cash into juicing the primary weapons ? especially the bullet cannon ? is a good investment. But I found myself far more reliant on secondary weapon systems like a homing energy blast that was perfect for cooking flanking enemies during boss battles while I concentrated my primary weapon on weak spots.

But in a shooter, I shouldn't derive the majority of my enjoyment in the shop screen. I should get my kicks when unloading on alien cruisers. Yet the magic never quite kicked in. Enemy patterns are predictable. Bosses, though large, are unimaginative. And everything is so straightforward. There are no little tweaks like Ikaruga's light-dark system. You don't have to completely ape old-school designs to keep it old-school. There is plenty of opportunity to pay homage to the classics like Raiden while putting your own clever spin on the shooter.

Razor2 includes a host of medals and in-game achievement as well as online leaderboards for boasting about your alien-killing prowess. These may keep some shooter fans coming back for more and getting a decent amount of value out of their $10 investment. But all players are sure to enjoy the soundtrack, which is an impressive tapestry of orchestral music. Although I may fancy beep-boop game music, even I started wondering how I might rip the soundtrack out of Razor2 for enjoyment outside of the shooter.

X2: Wolverine's Revenge is a video game released in 2003 to coincide with the release date of the film X2: X-Men United. Revenge was the first title to feature Wolverine in a starring role since 1994. The player helps Wolverine claw his way past the heavily guarded areas of the Weapon X Facility to piece together fragmented clues to Wolverine's murky past and, more important, to save his life. The game was released as a promotional tie-in to X2 but featured an original story by famed comic book writer Larry Hama, and does not take place in the continuity of the film series, but the Marvel comic verse instead. Wolverine has 48 hours to find an antidote to a deadly Sheva Strain Virus circulating in his bloodstream and the clues point to the Weapon X facility, the Canadian fortress where he had his skeletal structure fused with adamantium.

A significant feature has Mark Hamill providing the voice-over for Wolverine while Patrick Stewart reprises his film role as Professor X.
